Mission Info
Status | Completed Mission | |
Description | Geological activity at Sol II’s north pole, within the Lakshmi Planum near the primary agricultural colony Concordia, has unearthed a vault from deep within the planet’s crust. It contains active mechanical automatons who insist their creators are still present on Venus. Memory Theta has been called in to unravel the mystery of the ancient machines and their ominous message. |

Mission Summary
Hundreds of millions of years ago, the planet Venus (Sol II) suffered a war between a race of colonists now extinct and inorganic native lifeforms called the Abad'ashar. The colonists lost, leaving behind only their advanced AI to avenge them. In order to do this, the AI destroyed Venus with orbital collisions and bombardments such that the planetary rotation was reversed, all water was evaporated, and geology rendered unstable, forcing the Abad'ashar to remain in dormant hibernation within the mantle for eons. Recent terraforming efforts over the past two centuries improved the ecology to the point where the Abad'ashar was able to return alongside the long-buried AI from the extinct colonists. The AI bootstrapped itself with the identity of the first person to encounter it, adopting the moniker of Old Gregg as it resumed its ancient war against the Abad'ashar.
The modern eco-cult known as the Kinship of Shangri-la took sides against Old Gregg and Starfleet in hopes of bringing the Abad'ashar back to planetary supremacy. As a result, Federation infrastructure was brought to its knees as the modern colony was caught between an immensely powerful rogue AI and an ancient living monolith, both of which were able to slave technology and bend it to their destructive wills.
In the end, the Memory Theta field team uprooted the Kinship, avoided the pitfalls of sabotage, and drove the Old Gregg AI out of the Venusian infrastructure before retasking the orbital solar diffuser that protected Venus from the sun into a massive solar laser that gouged the Abad'ashar out of the planet's crust.
With Old Gregg purged for good and the Abad'ashar turned to ash, Memory Theta left Venus to recover along with the rest of the Sol system which suffered catastrophic collateral damage from Old Gregg and the Abad'ashar -- including the loss of Spacedock One which broke apart in orbit and had its debris spread across most of the northern hemisphere of Earth.
