Mission:
S1E1: Bynars Be Bygones
Location: Bynaus Starport
Timeline: MD 6; 20:00-35
After the pristine environs of the Ambassador's office, trekking through the polished reconstructed ruins of the capitol canton seemed arduous. Though the shuttle ride over to the starport allowed them to bypass most of the dilapidated infrastructure, the short walk from the landing pad to the restricted hangar featured a smog-filled terrain that was no less morose for the perpetual twilight of the distant sun. As the team marched to the doors, they split into their separate groups as they had previously discussed on the way over.
Team 1 would consist of Mrazak and Storr with support from Isaiah, while Team 2 would be Nevin, BaoJun, and Rodi with Janus running contact between them.
"Don't forget," Mrazak said in the third reminder of their orders, "overlook nothing. If you find a datum in a trash receptacle, I want to know what it is."
"Rest assured," Bao snarked. "If I found a datum in such a ridiculously inappropriate place, it would be cataloged."
Mrazak sniffed at them. "Janus, please don't let them do anything I wouldn't do."
"I make no promises I cannot reasonably keep, given the statistical probability of a Theta Away Team initiating a level 5 catastrophic planetary event. I can, however, keep an open comm link to the nearest Starfleet installation within range with the capacity to facilitate a limited planetary evacuation," Janus informed, before adding. "Starbase 547's superintendent AI is an incorrigible flirt who doesn't realise I'm not able to pass the Turing Test."
"Besides which, if we didn't do things you wouldn't we'd never make any progress," the Lagashi added.
The assurance did nothing to soothe Mrazak's concerns. "If I may suggest a course of action, I would recommend simultaneous interviews -- dead bodies, live ones, and the grounded vessel. I will be in touch."
Mrazak darted down the corridor toward the directors' office with Storr in tow, leaving Team 2 to find their way.
Nevin raised an eyebrow, his fingers brushing against the second key code that was in his pocket. "Looks like we have work to do." He turned towards the shuttle, "Janus, please prepare for the body to be brought aboard the Phantom," he said. "I'd like it prepped for autopsy when I've arrived."
"Please." The floating green pyramid said, before adding. "Ferrofax has instructed me to follow no instruction given by Dr Kiril unless it is prefaced by a 'please' or another kind remark."
Then the little holo flipped over, glowing red.
"He told me to give you lethal levels of sass if you did not comply," Janus stated, before turning over again and glowing a friendly green. "So please give me the common decency afforded to walking collections of chemicals or I cannot promise to maintain the integrity of your DataNet search history."
Chuckling Bao turned to the VI. "Technically, he did say Janus, please prepare," he needled. "Would it be possible for you to arrange for the relevant living bodies to be present as well?" he added, using his 'political asskissing' tone. "I do believe the pointy eared sociopath may have had a point about the simultaneous interviewing thing."
The small floating pyramid stuttered for a moment, flickering to and fro from green to red as some sort of internal logic conflict went to DEFCON 1. Then it settled on green.
"Apologises. But now you know that I have access to sensitive personal data and do not possess a conscience in its distribution," Janus said, still glowing green. "It appears as though my exterior personality indicators are temporarily offline. We will just have to assume that I, like my creator Ferrofax, have your best interests at heart."
The little VI flickered again before adding: "All relevant biological samples have been transported aboard the USS Phantom. Living bodies have been placed in Faraday cage isolation suites to ensure proper digital and EM quarantine. If you like Dr Kiril I could get started on the autopsies. I have the control codes to access the robotic telepresence suite right here in my command buffer."
Janus in control of a multiple armed surgical robots with lasers on its hands. A case in how to start the spam bot uprising.
---32 minutes later---
Nevin stepped out of the shuttlebay, "Sergeant, please inform the helm that we'll be moving the Phantom from our current position to Canton 0101-1. Hangar 11-010110," he said, turning towards sickbay. "Once we're there, you'll have full access to the Bynar ship. BaoJun, let me know if you need anything. I'll be in sickbay."
Rodi nodded, and stepped onto the bridge. He relayed the instructions given and took his own seat at the Tac/Sec station. He began reviewing what little was known about the Bynar ship he would be inspecting.
=/\="Mrazak to Kiril. What have you found?"=/\=
Nevin smacked his combadge, more than slightly annoyed at the micromanaging. "Well, we just arrived back at the Phantom. We haven't even begun yet. I'll let you know when we have more information, Kiril out."
Mrazak's voice rang out over his combadge. =/\="That's disappointing. Update me as soon as you have more information. Mrazak out." =/\=
---Meanwhile, Sometime Later in the Cage---
BaoJun stepped briefly outside the shielded area and pressed his communicator. "Qiao to Kiril and Mzarak. I have a what happened, and possibly an inkling of a how. Our friendly Bynars have had their processes modified along quantum computing lines by exposure to our friendly neighbourhood inadvertently genocidal rogue android. The downside, it may well be spread by contact with converts. I also admit to having no clue how to go about reversing the change or adapting the Bynars to it."
Mrazak responded, =/\="Garlic and I have secured the android. Everybody be on alert--there are infilitrators in the system. Convene back on the Phantom as soon as your assignments are completed."=/\=
