972 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: Mission 0: Everybody Has A Story
Location: JAG Office
Timeline: 1 week after Bynaus

The first few days of duty at Memory Theta had proven to be taxing, both personally and professionally. On top of everything going on in Akiva's life, it seemed that every part of the facility was collapsing under house fires that only he could put out. And now, meeting in the vacant JAG record office that would be Akiva's home away from home as Memory Theta's JAG representative in addition to its, there was another matter at hand that he had to resolve. One created directly by the actions of his predecessor.

"It looks like we're all here, so let's begin." Akiva sighed deeply, both to calm himself and to gather his thoughts. "I am required to state that the following conversation is a matter of official record and will therefore be recorded in full audio-visual media." Turning to Nevada, he said, "Please state for the record your full name and rank, and explain how you came to be here."

"Nevada Colorado McKay, Lieutenant Junior grade, And For How I came to be here, I was abducted against my will by Operatives serving under the Justice system, Though their true loyalties were to Section 31, they were interested in using my Terraforming Nanoprobes for Surveillance on the Operatives of this...group," she gestured around her.

Akiva nodded, clearly approving of her truthful statement.

Mrazak scoffed but said nothing, for which he merely earned a glare from Akiva.

"Did you ever pledge allegiance to Section 31, provide material aid to the same, disclose state secrets or other classified data, or knowingly commit a crime of any kind against the Federation or its citizens?" Akiva smirked as he rattled off each potential charge in rapid succession. This was proving to be one of the easier tasks of the day.

"No, I actively sabotaged their efforts to use my Nanoprobes, telling them that I would personally have to Deploy them, as a last ditch effort to cause them trouble, and to, If at all possible, escape their custody," she rolled her shoulders. "Blowing up that ass hat marine was just candy on the cake for Betraying S31."

Mrazak's eyes snapped to attention. He had not heard that detail. "What marine?" he interjected. Remembering the matter was being recorded, he quickly added, "For the record, that is."

"Major Kowitz, an S31 Collaborator...He stole a shuttle pod after We got caught...only for me to obliterate him using the Nanoprobes," she said with a sadistic grin.

"How marvelous," Mrazak said with a manic grin. "Not only that you eradicated Section 31, but in such a sweeping gesture, using your own invention that they thought to steal against them." Admiration began to swell in his face.

"I Do Like Poetic justice," Nevada smiled and leaned on the table.

"Indeed." Mrazak glowed with approval, perhaps on many levels.

Akiva cleared his throat. "May we continue?" The tone pegged it as a command rather than a question. "Have you had any contact with Commodore Hightower or anyone from his office or personal affiliation before or since this incident?"

"No And I pray to Fusion I never do, that man was a perverted monster...I honestly wish I could have gotten him in that shuttle as well..." She Shook her head slowly.

"Hightower is now facing Starfleet's justice," Akiva said. "Do you have any reason to believe other Section 31 cells exist, and if so, do you have any information whatsoever that could lead to their arrests and convictions?"

"I know that at least one Marshal, and one pilot in employ of JAG who Delivered me to Hightower, and a Nebula class ships CO owed him some kind of favor," she said leaning against her chair.

"Very good," Akiva said. "Well, I think we have all we need--"

Mrazak pounded his fist. "What about us? Did he mention anything about informants or sources from Memory Theta?"

"He said we had a contact that would fly us to your ship, Presumably that Wilco Idiot," Nevada shrugged.

Mrazak snickered.

"Wilco?" Akiva flipped through his notes. "I don't recall any 'Wilco' individual..."

The snickering turned to laughter.

"Are you amused by something, Commander?" Akiva clearly was not.

"She means Lieutenant Reno Van Straten." It took much self-control to stifle his laughter, but Mrazak did so. "The man overstepped his bounds as much as he was anachronistic. Once he responded to a communication with 'Roger Wilco,' and so the name stuck." Darkness stole across Mrazak's eyes. His voice dropped an octave, burdened by wrath. "Now the traitor will burn for what he has done."

Akiva blinked repeatedly during the Vulcan's angry monologue, then quickly glanced at his notes. "Van Straten. Right. I think we'll keep the name as it's recorded." Looking back to Nevada. "As I was saying, I think we have everything we need. You're free to go, Lieutenant."

"So..I'm not going to Elba II?" Nevada asked unflinchingly.

"No." Akiva scribbled a signature with his finger on the PADD's touch screen. "Though it will remain as your official cover for the duration of your service to the team. We are a black site, after all." He gave her a half smile. "Allow me to be the first to formally welcome you to Memory Theta." Standing up, he added with a glance to the ceiling, "End recording." With a nod to both Mrazak and Nevada, Akiva excused himself from the room.

Mrazak didn't move. He gazed upon Nevada with the silent, smoldering intensity one might reserve for a surprise game of Kal-toh or a Chinese puzzle box.

Nevada's gaze shifted to the vulcan, her eyes meeting his as she made a Silly Effeminate face at him while Akiva's attention was turned away.

The subtle flirtation made Mrazak shudder with an unfamiliar feeling. "Lieutenant," he said with a nod before hurrying out the door on Akiva's heels.
