After his "meditation" in the Arboretum, Mrazak had a thought to check on his newest team acquisition. Brilliant as he knew himself to be, Mrazak knew that the current Theta alert would require someone more specialized in the field of biology and anatomy. And that is where Lieutenant Kiril Nevin would come in.
"Good day," Mrazak said as he crossed over the threshold, before he even laid eyes on Nevin. It was a general announcement that belied his true feelings. "How goes the research project?"
"This is hardly a research project," Nevin said, not looking up from the microscope he was peering into. "But everything is going well. The cure is currently being synthesized and should be ready to go within a week. A day or two of final testing after that and I'll be ready to leave." He looked up and smiled at the man.
"So I have a favor to ask." Mrazak smiled broadly, almost too wide, before letting it fade. "We received an alert this morning from the Beta Magellan system. Bynaus is facing another crisis, though true to form the Bynars are keeping it quiet. A biomedical specialist could prove invaluable to the investigation." He assessed the lab equipment. "Your synthesis can be supervised by any technician, and it will be waiting here for you, completed and ready to be administered, when we return." He raised an eyebrow. "What do you say, Lieutenant?"
"The Bynars are a technological species, if I remember correctly," Nevin said, looking up at the man with a furrowed eyebrow. "How would I be of any help in such a scenario?"
"Cyborgs, to put it crudely," Mrazak sniffed. "Cybernetic organisms, to be precise. There may be autopsies involved. I'd much rather read the report than conduct one myself." His hand swept over the lab. "It's not as though your cure will synthesize any faster by staring at it." He sidled up to Nevin and gave him a light push from his elbow. "Get out of here for a bit, see the sights of a restricted world, have a little adventure."
Nevin nodded, "You're probably right. The few rooms I have access to have been quite dull, and your hologram refuses to let me out of this space."
"Shhhh!" Mrazak put a finger over Nevin's mouth. "He hates being called that. Hates it." After backing up to a respectful distance, Mrazak dusted his hands as if he had actually done something. "With all of that worked out, I will expect you at the briefing in approximately an hour."
A beep from the microscope pulled at Nevin's attention, "Right. Briefing." He turned and walked to the machine, bending over it as he peered within.
"Don't be late," Mrazak intoned through his ear-to-ear grin. "No... I know you won't be."
Nevin grunted in response, though it was unsure whether he had even heard what Mrazak said or not.
