The New Minion

338 words; about a 2 minute read

Mission: S1E3: Barbarians at the Gates

Grace had recognized LT Zelaney from his picture on the manifest that she'd been studying over the last couple of days. She wanted to be able to recognize members of the team by sight because she knew her social skills weren't that great and so instead of making introductions and asking around if she needed to know who someone was for a job-related purpose she could just recognize them, it made perfect sense.

"Excuse me, Lieutenant?" Grace said, approaching him as the meeting let out. "I'm Dr. Sternwood," she said, just assuming he'd know exactly who she was. While he was her supervisor she had not reported to him. When she had come aboard and met the Station Administrator she was told she had no schedule and that she should settle in and so she'd been working on getting as comfortable as she could in her quarters and trying to sleep aboard the horrible station. She also added some protection to her personal computer from that horrible hologram that needed to be redesigned. But as for actual work? None.

"Yes, how can I help you?" Isaiah asked as he walked out the door behind everyone else.

"I'm the new Computer Specialist," Grace said, a bit nervous.

Isaiah raised an eyebrow as he glanced behind him, "Wasn't aware we needed two," he said.

Grace blinked, not sure how to answer that statement. "Honestly," she said, giving it a chance. "I think I'm here to fix the Captain's robot."

The man nodded, "I suppose I understand that. Well, welcome to the team," he said.

"Thanks. Uh, is there anything you need me to do?" she asked, unsure if she should.

"Actually, yes." Isaiah stopped and leaned against the bulkhead. "I want you to brush up on the Lagashi. You'll be taking point on the team for this. I'm going to be running diagnostics on Ferrofax while we're there."

"I will sir, please let me know if there is anything else I can do for you," she said, with a smile.
